Puerto del Rosario, with 40,000 inhabitants, is a young municipality and home to a dynamic and peaceful capital, a meeting point for Majoreros and visitors. Puerto del Rosario is the island's administrative capital, centre for connectivity, a cultural reference and has day and night entertainment.
Sun and Beaches
A modern sea promenade crosses the city, going through the marina and the city beach of Playa Chica, with white sand and accessible to everyone that wants to enjoy a swim in the heart of the capital. The bay of Puerto del Rosario welcomes cruise ships every week and because of this acquires the look of a city that is full of life. At the end of the promenade we find Playa Blanca, which with a length of nearly a kilometre of golden sand and clear waters, makes it an ideal spot to practice water sports (surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing,...), or to spend the day relaxing with your family.
The municipality of Puerto del Rosario has other beaches, such as Puerto Lajas, small with black sand and Los Molinos, with pebbles and dark sand, which still conserve the charm of fishing villages of times gone by.
Leisure and complementary offer
To stroll through culture, Puerto del Rosario offers a Sculpture park made up by more than one hundred sculptures scattered throughout the city.
To go shopping in the city is a pleasant alternative, as it has many open spaces, such as the pedestrian street Primero de Mayo, or the streets León y Castillo and Virgen de la Peña nearby.
A large shopping centre with shops of the most well known brands and a commercial area in the neighbourhood of El Charco complete the range of shopping in Puerto del Rosario.
The gastronomic offering is likewise as vast and varied. Endless open air cafés that make the most of the island's weather, bars, restaurants and cafeterias are available the length and breadth of the municipality, to taste typical, national or international food at the best price.
Other reasons to visit Puerto del Rosario are its number of bars and pubs, open till dawn, which convert the capital into Fuerteventura's night entertainment centre.
